transparency crisis angola

BIGGER THAN ANGOLA

Our chief reporter, Ben Hallman, shares five reasons Luanda Leaks is more than just an investigation about Angola. Despite the name, our expose reveals how the offshore industry (home to some of dos Santos' wealth) is a global problem. It also reveals a network of accountants, lawyers and other experts willing to help move and hide illicit wealth.

‘SHOCKED AND DISAPPOINTED’

PwC chairman Bob Moritz wasn’t the only person to respond to Luanda Leaks in the past two days. The board of Portuguese bank Eurobic, in which dos Santos holds a 42.5% stake, has ended its commercial relationship with the businesswoman and “people closely related” to her. In Angola, the prosecutor general said it would use “all possible means” to get dos Santos back to the country. Other countries are now poring over our investigation.
ICYMI…
Assuming you have read our main stories, I wanted to highlight the work of our research team to unveil more than 400 companies connected with dos Santos and her husband – download the and explore for yourself! If documents are more your thing, then you can read nearly 100 documents from the leak – we published them here.
Lastly, if you’ve got a friend or colleague who might be interested in our latest investigation – please share it with them! Our visual explainer of Angola’s history is a good place to start.
Until next week!
